Turkey to get back its former image of regional mediator - expert

Turkey’s efforts regarding the Qatar crisis resolution may become a diplomatic breakthrough for the country, Naciye Selin Senocak, chair holder at UNESCO Cultural Diplomacy Governance and Education, director of Diplomatic and Strategic Studies Center, told Trend.

The upcoming visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait to resolve the crisis will return Turkey its former image of a mediator in the region, according to her.

The expert said that Turkey is a force that can ensure stability in the region.

“The problem of the Muslim world is that it is not able to protect its interests.”

She believes that after the “Arab Spring,” the role of Turkey in the region has strengthened significantly.

“But Ankara's position on the developments in Egypt led to the fact that the West started their propaganda to discredit Turkey,” she said.

Naciye Selin Senocak noted that Turkey should completely abandon the policy of "zero problems with neighbors" which is, in fact, a utopia.

It was earlier reported that Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait on July 23-24.

Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE announced about breaking their diplomatic relations with Qatar June 5, accusing Doha of supporting terrorist organizations and destabilizing the situation in the Middle East.

Later, the authorities of Libya, Yemen, as well as the Maldives and Mauritius also announced about severing diplomatic relations with Qatar.
